Pearce, Thomas

Thomas Pearce, council member, served on the Council of the North Carolina colony (then called Albemarle) as of 26 Apr. 1672, when he and other Council members signed a letter to the Lords Proprietors and instructions for Governor Peter Carteret, who was to deliver the letter.

Nothing more is known of this Thomas Pearce. Although an individual bearing the name collected quit rents in the colony in 1685, nothing indicates whether or not he was the former Council member. A Thomas Pearce (Peirce), son of John Peirce and member of the Assembly in the early 1700s, was only three years old in 1672. Several individuals bearing the name were in Virginia during the period, but none has been identified as the Albemarle Council member.
